One Tree Woodwork

Orcas Island………

In 2008 the wife and I stayed on Orcas Island in the San Juan archipelago off the coast of washington st. It was gorgeous and laid back and while we were there we visited the Orcas Island Pottery shop and it was awesome.

Check out below  the classic Northwest native carving of a whale on the side of the building. The connection between the carvings and mythology are really inspiring.

Check out this treehouse on the same property.

Tohner, you have been putting out so much good stuff lately I haven’t had time to craft a worthy comment, although I may do some retro-jacking this weekend. Developments at work have me putting together not one but two small crews for the 2014 building season. Not what I had in mind for the year but it fits with my plans to buy a couple rural acres here on the Florida East Coast and now for some reason I am thinking about some kind of boondocks retreat in the hills above Monterey.

Meanwhile, I have taken the liberty of posting a link to my own tree house story. I hope you don’t mind…

Looking forward to a blog- jacking. I remember that tree house post it’s a really good one. It’s a strange feeling re visiting places you built in another life especially when it involves taking it down. Sometimes I think people forget how much emotion goes into building things by those that build it.
      Keep truckin-
      Until we blog again- tohner

I grew up on Orcas! I’m so glad you enjoyed your time there. If you’re interested I blog about it fairly often, including this one about Orcas Island Pottey! http://afinedayforanepiphany.wordpress.com/?s=orcas+island+pottery&submit=Search

Morning has broken. The desolation of my lettuce plant: cabbage loopers have descended upon my garden with great vengeance- attacking not only the lettuce but the broccoli and Brussel sprouts. Laying waste and leaving nothing but a path of destruction in their wake. Do not go gentle into that goodnight.... urban farmer turns vigilante. No looper left alive... all must parish. We must kill the entire bloodline. The very fate of our tiny garden depends on it...... TGIF friends!!! I stopped by one of my all time favorite butcher shops on my way to a new job site they happen to make some of the best turkey jerky in the world. Old school doesn’t even begin to describe it. Keep Main Street America alive. Will miss it when it’s gone. Quick very abridged vid of Smith project.
We had our cleaners come and do a make ready as we march towards completion. Many details to come in the next few weeks pool, landscape, road and entrance. It’s always satisfying to see something you’ve worked on for a year get close to completion. It’s almost time to turn the page. Almost....................... but not yet. Keep calm and carry on until then. Sunday morning vibes. Hung a new proper light for over the dining table...... and yes that’s a heron I carved from cedar flying out of the wall (almost exactly due south-dumb luck). Below and to the left was my homage to Starry Night I carved with a chainsaw. The lamp in the corner was driftwood I found on the banks of Llano river while fly fishing. The plaque above the window is carved in Latin IPSI SIBI SOMNIA FINGUNT with a hawk carved on one side and a tree on the other. Home is where the heART is. Date night at our favorite restaurant.
